Great pics and video.
The Navy had something called the C-117
which I think was a DC-3 variant.
Had a memorable flight in one from Rota, Spain to
Naples by way of Palma Majorca to pick up an injured sailer.

I've flown the C117-D. Was the stretched square tail varient of the -3

What the navy called the R4D-8 and what the civilian world called the Siper DC-3.

In fact that very aircraft was in Jane's.

It met a fiery end on a street in Miami.

I'll post a pic of that too if ya like lol

Those rotary aircraft engines were unlikely things; crankshaft bolted to the firewall while the rest of it spins. Took me awhile to get my head around that. The producers of "Flyboys" got that all wrong!

Hey Tim, Those are some very nice shots that you posted. Those of the plane that went down in Miami reminded me of the B52 that blew up over a residential area of Little Rock, when I was in Junior High School. We lived in across the Arkansas River in North Little Rock at the time. I looked out a window after I heard a noise and saw the plane engulfed in flames and coming apart. Don't have any pictures of that one. Some folks died in that one but I don't have a clue what the statistics were. There was a fair sized area affected also. Don't remember the exact date, somewhere between the late 50's and very early 60's. Just thought I'd share that bit.
