Fork oil question
« on: July 21, 2007, 08:22:31 AM »
First off, I have a 78 550.  Second off, this may seem like a silly question, but I'm going to ask anyway.

When filling the forks with oil, when do you start to measure?  After taking the plugs out, almost no oil came out until I started to pump the forks up and down.  Do I now put 150cc of oil in, or do I need to put more because I pumped it out?

Thanks,

Is that the amout the bike calls for?  Then no, don't put in any more than that.  And the only way to measure it is before it goes in the forks.  It seems to me that more should have come out when the plug was removed.  Yes, you do have to pump it to get it all out.  Any chance you measured what came out?  That might give you a clue.

That is the amount that is supposed to go in, and no I didn't measure how much came out.  It looked like about the right amount, though.  Maybe it was just too dirty (it was pretty dirty) to flow well.
