Cb750 w/900 kit, Whats the points gap?
« on: May 30, 2007, 09:58:28 PM »
OK, my neighbor pulled out his Cb750 custom drag bike with 900cc kit. It's been locked up in his garage for more than 10+ years. So, he bought a new set of points, cuz the he tried resurfacing his old set and they're toast!

I need to know if the points gap are the same spec as stock? Anyone know? I asked him what kind of piston conversation, but he doesn't remember.

Thanx, L.A. Nomad!

You might alter the timing with a big bore but NOT the points gap

Yeah, I figured the timming was different. I wasn't sure about the points gap, I'll set them at stock spec.

What happens when one of your advance springs break?

Never seen it happen but I would figure that the timing would advance too soon or even right away when you started up.

I think the point gap should always be from .016-012 " the lower end could give you better performace, anything wider will cause "Bounce" at high RPM

Point bounce is exaggerated with wider gaps. It is when the points can close fast enough to saturate the coils. Thats why some people double spring but it causes the rubbing blocks to wear out faster. And the points cam MAY wear out faster but I am not sure.
