Dyna coils on a '79cb650
« on: April 06, 2007, 03:33:40 AM »
WHOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have yet to be able to ride more than a few hundred feet.... but WHOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased some dyna coils, and FINALLY got my bike running again 2 nights ago.

Have yet to finish painting the tank, but rode her till the floats ran out of gas with the modifoed carbs(love them!!), new K&N air filter pods,  and stock coils.
Ran good.
WAY better response than I rember last years ride as.
Actually couldn't start daisy with the choke(OMG!).
starts fine now.

Just put on my new Dyna coils...  :o ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
the bike wown't bog.
Ok, WOT from a standstill kills her still... but other than that. NO PROBS.

Was initially worried I would have to fabricate a bracket for the coils, since the wires pointed out towards the tank just straingt bolted onto the stock mount points...
But there is JUST enough clearance to get them to fit.

That 1st pic is of the right side of the tank.
2nd the miniscule clearance on the left side of the tank.
third of how the coils sit on the stock mount points.
fourth is of the bike after I had ran her a bit. :) :)
the last one just showing off....

I'm not sure what the tank clearances are on the '80 and beyond CB650... but the '79 has JUST enought room.
I love it, this year should be a great year of riding!

Oh, BTW they are 3.0 ohm coils, with 7mm wires, and no spark plug boots.
I may later try the difference of using 5K resistor boots with these coils, but for now... I'm in heaven.

Now if i could only give up the perfectionism, and just paint the da**ed tank, i could go on a real long ride....  ;D
