« on: April 09, 2007, 01:59:31 PM »
Can anyone share with me how to switch handle bars on a cb650 1980. I was looking at cafe bars. does anyone have any other ideas pics or so on for the best looking handle bars...i am going with the industrial flat black no front fender look. thanks

Clubmans from Bikemaster worked well for me.  Running the wires was a project, but well worth the effort.  Many people here have done it.  I can post pis of the process later.  Others have used clip ons.

I am a fan of the industrial theme as well...
I dig the smooth top triple tree / clip on bar look myself on these bikes...

To each their own, as ANY low bar looks better than the stock offerings...

What levers and master are on that bike? also headlight bucket etc, was the tree shaved, or is it stock for another bike?
realy like the clean look that bike has.

I've been running drag bars for the last few years, don't care for the upright position on a bike, too much windage and long trips wear me out with 'standard' style bars.

One of my grandkids knocked my bike over last winter, luckily it was close enough and positioned just right so the bar hooked on the mill and kept it from going all the way over, tweaked the bar though, so I picked up a set of clubmans to see how they feel.

I just uninstalled my Pro-Flo clip-ons, as I found the clip-on riding position very uncomfortable.  I installed BikeMaster G.P. Touring bars, which have a slightly lower rise than stock, so they look good, but are still quite comfortable.  I did have to rearrange my stainless brake hose fitting (I built my hose up from separate components for flexibility) to avoid the stock master cylinder from fouling the tach as the rise in the bars is only about 2".

Hey ProTeal - when you slid your triple clamps down on your forks to allow you to mount the clip-ons on top of the upper triple clamp, did it have an effect on how the bike handles?

If I recall correctly, Teal dropped the back of that bike too 8)

The master on the CB450 came from http://HTTP://WWW.MIKESXS.NET
It was the smallest/tightest master I could find on the internet. I would put it on my CB750 in a heartbeat if it could handle dual discs (which it cant).. The headlite bucket is stock Honda, painted low gloss black. The brake lever came with the master, and the clutch lever is stock Honda..The triple tree is the stock tree that came on the bike from the factory. All I did was grind down all the tabs and handlebar mounts, have the remaining holes filled in, then hand filed it until I got the shape I wanted. Alittle low-gloss black spraypaint and I was done. I am really happy with how the front-end turned out, as it is as minimal as you can get while still having the bike functional...

Haven't rode this bike yet so I cant tell ya, but I did do the same thing to my CB750 and have been riding that bike for about 2 years now. I am sure it affects handling, but I dont ride my bikes like crotch rockets. If I wanted a bike to take a corner at 100mph I would buy a R1 or a Buell..My CB750 has lots of things going AGINST it as far as handling goes. It is lowered about 3'' up front and 2'' in the rear, 21'' HD wheel up front, 16 HD wheel out back, etc..

So with the big wheel the steering is very heavy, but I have gotten used to it. As I said when I first came on this board, I see these bikes as more form rather than function..

If I recall correctly, Teal dropped the back of that bike too 8)
U are correct sir  ;D
Both my CB750 as well as the CB450 are now running 11'' short shocks out back...

It looks real nice Proteal, bucket must look 'strange' because I'm not used to seeing so much of it!
I may have to do my own interpretation of it, looks sweet.

Thanks
Ken.
