Making a turntable driveway Rotating flatform for my bike
« on: April 05, 2007, 06:47:45 PM »
I welcome any suggestions.  I thought I was original but apparently there are professional companies that do this.

http://www.hovair.com/products/car-turntables/car-turntables.htm

They charge starting from $23K.

My plan cost:

$13 for "heavy duty swivel"  from a wood cabinet maker constantine.com
2X$40 for a piece of wood (door size) about 1 inch
$20 router (harborfreight.com)  I think they are the cheapest tool maker no?

directions:
Use the router to carve a 5/16" (thickness of swivel) in the center of the wood platform
the swivel is 5/8" thick so you want half and half on each platform
slope the sides so its' easier to push the motorcycle on it like a ramp
screw down the swivel on one platform in your newly dug up hole.
grease between the platforms.

What do yall think?

I will post actual results as soon as the swivel arrives in 4 days.

Update: For $250 you can get a pallet carousel but you still need a base board

Seriously cool item ! My brain is starting to Hum.!
Like †o see how it "turns" out.
You could put a circular groove near the outer edge of the bottom
piece and fill the groove all around with hundreds of ball bearings.

See Phil's earlier threads and you could attach an old Pentax and take some 360 panoramas at the same time. ;D

Previous Owner had antique plates but in order to register it here in DC I have to pass a one time inspection (not happening).  I don't have mirrors, cut off switch, no baffles yet, etc.  I don't even know what constitutes a DC vehicle inspection.  So I have to prevent the cops from "catching me riding dirty" by parking it in my own property.

I have a little yard in the front that I park my bike.  In the city, you have to constantly move your bike if you park it in the street.  One street is Wednesday Street cleaning, the other side Thursday street cleaning.  And no parking during rush hour on one side (just paid $100 ticket for my car).  So I have to park it on my little front yard, about 12 x12 with a brick and little fence. and it's a #$%* to back it out everytime.  Georgetown have so many long driveways and row houses that are just narrow, I'll post pics of where I park soon.

They make a packing turn-table for shipping and preparing pallets. Metal construction with even a ramp on one side. Foot lever to release the table rotation that will stop every 45° I seam to remember. Maybe you can get one of these surplus??? You never know, and it will save you the time and look really neat on your garage floor...

Check out this ultra cheap solution.  http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/122_0508_streetbike_tricks_spin/index.html      I have done this with my dirt bikes thanks to their light weight and long kickstands, but the idea of turning my K5 into a 500 pound asphalt auger makes me wonder about how much time I actually want to save.

I salvaged this from an EMI test range.  But, it seems you could use the same design principles for a MC sized device.
