What does IOHC stand for?
« on: June 09, 2005, 02:05:00 PM »
Hi,

I just recently purchased a 1978 Honda 750k Four. I am familiar with SOHC, but my bikes engine reads IOHC. Can someone please advise what this stands for?

I am definately a newbie, sorry for the dumb question. I have never ridden before and will be using this bike to learn on. Thanks for the help!

Well I have never run across iohc. I would think someone did it just to be a bit different. It may stand for Inline Over Head Cam.

You must have one of the Quantum 750's.  IOHC in this case stands for "Infinite Overhead Cams", in reference to the infinity of parallel bikes (and riders) in infinite parallel universes, some of whom, it stands to reason, are having no problems whatsoever with their machines.  You should consult your manual as to how to align your actuality with theirs.

If any of you owners of the Quantam 750 IOHCs want to get rid of it please let me know. I'm interested in picking one of these up so I can ride :)

Isn't the marking something like [OHC ===========] ?  I think it's stamped for Over Head Cam, omitting the 'S'?  Or perhaps it's for

Honda
Cycle

He's mistakengly taking a "1" in roman numbers for a "I". So, "One Over Head Camshaft"...

Mystery Solved...   Here is a shot of 1978 CB750K Valve Cover.  The 'alledged I'  is  just part of the 'design'...

RFVC is radial four-valve combustion chamber, which you'll see on some Honda thumpers, IIRC.

ghost, I'll have to look into that Bandito situation.  I'll have one of my parallel instantiations fill me in at the next interstice...
