Red light in tripletree
« on: April 10, 2007, 10:21:09 AM »
Hi everyone,I'm new here and this is my second post.Ya'll were so helpful getting my 750 going again,I know this is the place to get help if you need it! My question is I bought this 74 CB750K about 6 months ago, It has a red light in the tripletree. I've GOOGLED it but didn't get very much info. There was a bike on Ebay awhile back that had the same light, and he was describing his as a Jap spec CB750 and the Light was a speed warning light. The headlight on this thing is different too. It has a big bulb & a small orange running lamp in the sealed headlight. I tried to get alother one and was told this is a U.K. item only. OK, at this point I'm really scratching my head! Could someone clear this up for me please?

Hey Tx!
I know exactly what this is!  The red light in the tripletree is indeed a Japan model.  Back in the day in Japan, all big bikes came with a red warning light that would light up once you exceeded 80 Kph.  It was the govt / manufacturers way to keep riders to obey the speed limit.  Most of us found ways of disconnecting them or just put a piece of duct tape over them, since in our case the light was always on!   ;D  Cars came with these idiot light too - but it was worse in their case...  a completely annoying little chime or bell would ring incessantly at above 110 kph nearly forcing drivers to back off, or go crazy from the bell...
Cheers, db

Hey thanks,
I don't know if i want to keep the light or what. I was told to turn it into another oil light. That was a pretty good idea,But i really wasn't to sure what it was, & how to do it! Any ideas on the headlight problem? Thanks again!

I had forgotten that cars had that bell.  I heard one of those dinging for about 40 minutes one day..... good thing I was not driving.
