slidin'
« on: June 19, 2005, 07:53:57 PM »
The original seat on my 500 was in awful shape. most of the foam had rotted and smelled, thanks to the big slits in the seat itself. I found an intact seat with wet, but good foam, took it home, washed it a few times with soap and water, dried it in my oven, and voila. seat. here's the problem: after Armorall 'ing the seat, i've restored the shine somewhat, but also made the seat very slick. any suggestions on how to resolve this? seat cover, top pad?

velcro?

Do whatever you can to get the armorall off of it.  Thats why they tell you not to put it on your steering wheel.  My wife says you might be able to get it off with mean green or windex.  You could also try some of that spray stuff that football players use to get a better grip on the ball.   ;D

armorall does make the seat look really swell, but you will find yourself pressing the ol' stuff against the tank
every time you come to a stop ;)

One trick that we used to use for getting a good grip with the fencing shoes on a varnished wood floor was
to dab the soles of the shoes in coca cola.  This might sticky the seat (or pants) up pretty well.

You've learned the hard way that seats are supposed to be a bit grippy. Still thats not as bad as the bloke who cleaned his tyres with the stuff and promptly went sliding down the road.

The slipperyness will go away fairly quickly. Don't sweat it.

One of lifes lessons- never put that stuff on tires or seats. Easy solution is exercise and use; squeeze a playing card between your butt cheeks 10 times an hour for one day. Day 2- ride ride ride. Your new skill will come in handy while the Armorall wears off.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!
