Fitting a different (suzi) rear wheel to the 400/4.....
« on: June 19, 2005, 08:43:24 PM »
Hiya all,

I am attempting to fit a Suzuki T500 (same as T250) rear wheel to my 400/4, just for the sake of it really and that it is a better looking and larger brake. Here is the problem........... The suzi hub is much thinner than the original honda hub so aligning the wheel and sprockets is problematic........ ie; when the sprockets are aligned the wheel is around 5mm off centre and vise versa for when the wheel is aligned.

I have been told that a way to do this is to line the sprockets up with a straight edge, then offset the rim from the hub by the required amount to get it centred via spoke adjustment.

Has anyone performed wheel swaps and encountered similar problems (Wayne???)? How would you suggest dealing with this?

Complicated question I know, but customising had to come up somewhere along the line!

Cheers and Thanks,

Ben.

If the studs holding th esprocket are long enough, or are replaceable, you might consider making a plate to shim the sprocket 5mm rather than relacing the wheel.

Thanks for the suggestion! I had an old sprocket laying around and low and behold, it happens to be the same thickness for proper spacing! I will have it machined down into a spacer and all should be good!

Excellent, its good when things work.
