Haven't noticed these in US
« on: April 11, 2007, 12:37:27 PM »
Walking around Jerusalem today, wife and I noticed mostly Suzukis around 500cc.  Standard looking, naked bikes.  Nice for manuevering around the tight streets and traffic in the city.  Haven't seen anything quite like them in the States (maybe haven't noticed?).  In the Old City, by the post office, we saw a lone modern Honda CB 500.  Haven't seen that in the US, either.  Mostly folks ride motorscooter, due to economics.

i haven't seen any modern cb500 here in quebec, but a Frenah magazin did Caferized on. ( was looking really great )
The Suzuki you are refering is probably  GS500 twin cylinder. great bike, a lot of Motorcycle school have them, so it is probably a good learning bike

Nice cafes.

I think the CB500 we saw looked pretty good, even stock.  I still think (old guy that I am) that size is sufficient for most purposes; especially with modern more efficient designs.

Maybe I should keep my old SR500...?

Hi there,

Cb 500 were very popular here in France>It was mostly use by a vast majority of driving schoosl but many people bought it as it was cheap(mpg was unbelivable almost like a 250cc:more than 200 miles of autonomy),really reliable(bikes  showing over 60000 miles are very commun and I've seen one over110000miles with a stock engine never been rebuilt)and pretty fun to drive too.
The negative points were poor rear shocks(10000 miles only)and the chain(6000-8000 miles)
Honda France also launched a monotype championship with the Twin cylinder cb500(almost 11000rpm max!).
It still hard to find one in good condition now.
I drove one for one month. It's light, easy to drive, got good brake and always ready for Wheelies and other stunts...
