air idle mix screw?
« on: April 12, 2007, 02:00:26 PM »
new to this so dont spank me too hard, question is: i read that you turn the air idle mix screw in till its seats then turn one full turn out to start. mycarbs seem to have a limiter cap type thing with an ear that allows it to only go from 12 oclock positoion to 12 oclock position if that makes any sense. also is that the screws you use to adjust for carb sync with the gauges. i have a 76 cb750f ss with one throttle screw on the main bar?

i definetly need to do some more homework then. the screws i am refering to are on the airbox side but on the side of the carbs they are black and have a wing on one side that only allows it to turn all the way left or all the way right. i must be confusing it with something else.

they should be the idle screws, starting mid to late 70's when EPA got really involved with vehicles, the companies would set a carb to spec, then install the limit caps on them so you could adjust within a limited range to compensate for altitude etc.

Pop off the limit caps and adjust as normal. They are supposed to be removable.

they were intended to keep the average owner from playing with them, many carb shops had boxfulls of the caps

I have seen two types of carbs an the 76 750,  the 'old' style with a lever operated drop down choke on the side, and the newer style with the cable operated flap type choke, the flap type I believe has the idle mix screw pointing down between the cylenders and the float bowl, the older style has the mix screw on the side on the airbox end.  it sounds like these are the type you have

Wykydtron gave good data,  airbox side controls the air, engine side controls the fuel.

ken.

that is correct. i have lever operated choke style. are they the screws that are supposed to be seated and then backed out one turn?
