Topic: Fuel Leaking out of Air filter

/Many thanks for the help regarding the tick over on my old carbs It appears it was the cables sticking

Now i have a new problem

after coming back from a test run to find the bike ticking over fine i noticed fuel pouring out of my left hand carb air filter
after inspection and removal of float chamber i have found that the float needle is not closing the fuel off properly and because the overflow tube in the middle of the carb was blocked it was literally filling the carb with fuel

My question is does anyone know if this is repairable or should i invest in a new needle valve etc .If new does anyone know anywhere good to go as these  seem to be very old carbs and i think i may need to go to someone who knows what they are doing

Whoa, wicked chop there elly!
Leaking float valves are a common issue.
Rebuild kits are cheap and easily available.
If you got as far as diagnosing the problem
you should have no trouble repairing it.
It's easy to replace.

check the float height, then maybe replace the float needle if needed.. then check again....if it will not shut off fuel at all, then you have a problem..it can quite easily be a bit of crap stuck in the needle jet, give it a good clean as well...good luck

Niced chop! Take the bowl off and remove the float and needle assembly.  Wipe the needle clean and look at it closely.  Any nicks or deforming of the tip will leak fuel.  Then, use a Q-tip soaked in Hoppes #9 gun barrel cleaner and swab the inside of the needle well and seat.  Reassemble and fill with fuel before reinstalling on bike.  This works 99% of the time with no new parts needed.

The first thing you should do is fix the clogged overflow tube, and then before you start the engine again, change the oil and filter.  If there's gas flowing out of the air filter, then there's a very good chance that gas also poured into the cylinder and down into the crankcase, and gas is not a good bearing lubricant.
