New member, just bought '76 CB750 project
« on: March 10, 2025, 11:53:32 AM »
Hi all,
I've purchased another member's project and wanted to say hello.
I'm not sure yet where I'm going. May do a modern front end and would like to do a more modern swingarm and 17" rear wheel as well.
Pretty excited!

Welcome aboard the forum jmardy from NH.
I used to live down in Oceanside CA.
What part of California are you in?
Looks like you have a 76 F Supersport from the color if the tank is original. You say you bought it from another member??

I'm in San Rafael, 20 minutes north of San Francisco.

It was on craigslist but I did some searching on some of the parts he included such as the Dime City GL1000 top triple and it led me here.

Welcome to the fun!
The stock rear CB750F0 swingarm is rigid as a bridge. Other than installing proper bronze bushings in the pivot, it is among the strongest swingarms ever built. The OEM bushings, however, are not in that category, so many "urban legends" proclaim the swingarm is "weak" when nothing could be further from the truth. The OEM greasing system had to be used on schedule from Day One of the bike's life, and almost 0% were actually so used. That's where the "weak swingarm" lie comes from: lack of maintenance.

Much appreciated!
It's really a modern rear wheel and braking system I'm after and assumed the swingarm would have to go with it.

Watch the tire/frame clearance to that added “hoop” at the rear. Looks pretty close considering there is no load on the bike……..

+1.
That looks like a "bump emergency brake" arrangement? :D

Good point! I hadn't really noticed. Maybe another reason to go with a 17" wheel. ;)
