Couple noobie questions
« on: April 12, 2007, 03:26:37 PM »
Sorry for asking such elemetary questions but turned up nothing in a searh.

I've finally got the points and timing set up smack-on using a dwell meter and strobe light, it will go quicker next time. My question is, I haven't used points grease in 30 years anad can't find any in the stores. What is everyone using and where do you get it, maybe everyone is using a substitute lube of some kind, I guess as long as it's high temp?

Next question is I would like to tackle the carb sync and I'm willing to buy gauges but where are the carb fittings available? I'm talking about the ones the gauge hoses would attach to. Thanks.

I believe Harley shops sell small tubes of something called point cam grease, but I've always used a very very small dab of lithium grease.

A decent set of carb synch guages will come with the adaptors to fit them to your carbs.

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Thanks. They offer a set of Emgo gauges with hoses and adapters for less than $50, can't beat that.
They don't specify but I'm assuming the adapters are 5mm, anyone know?

Thanks to all the responders.
