Thanks, guys!
I'd be interested to know how long it takes to get to you. Lulu now has 2 plants: one is the original in the Carolinas, I think, and the new one is in Nevada. I've received 'proof' copies from both places and they seem to be the same. Going to order signature copies today.
Do we get signature copy from you or from LuLu?

Signature version come from me: let me know if you want them that way. I have to order it from Lulu (hard or paper cover) and get it, then sign it, then ship it to you that way. I'm going to the Post Office today to find out if they have 'book rates' (media rate?) still available: it takes longer in shipping, but costs less than $35 to ship overseas that way (that's just outrageous postage!).

I currently have a few coming (probably next week) for that purpose. :)
1 for me please. Hard cover.

Yes, USPS still offers a "media rate" for books, it is much cheaper and comes with a tracking number at no extra charge.

That would be great: I have to go again this afternoon or tomorrow because the "guy" who knows about the Media Rate wasn't there today - he works every other day(!), must be half-retired?  :D

Mark,

Congratulations and a BIG thank you for doing this.  I think I can speak for all folks that bought your book on 750's.  I regard it as the "bible' of knowledge for the 750's.  While I do not have a 500/550 I am sure it will supply the owners of these machines with many hours of invaluable input to get them running like I had with your 750 book.

I wonder if these machines will still be running in another 50 years.  I know I won't be.  Next year will be the 50th anniversary with my 750.  Bought it new in June of '76.  Was the most magnificent purchase of my life back then.  Looking back, it still is! ;)

Glad to help! I've had lots of email for lots of years about doing this one, probably because of the first one? I like letting EVERYONE in on the secrets of these bikes: when this happened with the Ford Mustang it grew and grew until now you can build an entire 1964-5 Mustang without using a single Ford-made part. I wanna do that with these, that's my secret desire. ;)

The 500/550 has long been treated like a sour stepchild, partly because of the way the carbs compromise the bikes - especially after 1974 when the PD carbs started showing up due to US DOT laws that were being made to punish the Japanese for selling their bikes so cheaply that Harley was struggling. The politics of the USA toward Japan at the time (until around 1990) caused a lot of stupid things to happen to them, most of which can be fixed now. A well-tuned 500/550 is a real joy to ride, and yes, they can go faster than 100 MPH. ;)

Congratulations on finishing the CB550 book.  I'm planning on selling Dash (when I can bring myself to do so) so won't need the book but am so proud that Dash's engine was rebuilt by the man himself!!!!

Oh I have been around. I troll the SOHC4 a lot but haven't been posting.  I have been riding a 2018 Suzuki SV650.  I actually love it.  Has more amenities than Dash does (like heated grips and ABS brakes  ;D).  So much luxury.  I rode last year almost 5,000 miles (CA through the Dakotas to Minnesota and around).  In July I will be riding to Canada to meet up with Fun Jimmy and go on an adventure with him.  Can't get long solo trips out of me!
Hope you are well!

Bravo, girl! :)
Yeah, someday I'm going to try to find the time to build bigger alternators for these mid-fours. It is really their only shortcoming, having just enough power to run the bike with the (OEM) lights on, something we can all thank the US DOT, circa 1972, for...

I would like a signed paper cover one to match the signed 750 one from a few years ago.
That book has helped me several times.
