Mind of the married man - need help finding a punchline
« on: April 12, 2007, 10:15:53 AM »
Couple of weeks ago it came to my mind a TV series I saw a couple times in the US: "Mind of the married man". Did an internet search and checked that the name was right, because I remembered the faces. So I got my emule working and downloaded a few episodes, though I couldn't find the hilarious one about the guy buying a Corvette in his midlife crisis.

Well, in one of the episodes, one of the characters tells a joke about asking his wife for Valentine's day the thing he wanted most: getting a blow while watching "The stooges". The guy tells the joke while they are playing billiard, and I couldn't fully understand everything he says. Back at home, one of the friends tells her wife the joke and she didn't find the punchline, what upsets the husband thinking they are so different when it comes to sense of humour.

So the woman do her research and find out what the punchline is to show the husband she can find the punchline and still not find it hilarious -I won't tell what's the next thing she does-. Long story short, the joke is something about the guy complaining to his wife in the middel of the bjob "What a chimp" or "Is a shrimp" or something like that. I guess it has something to do with the Stooges; probably it is a popular joke from the show, and either for that or because I couldn't understand the word I didn't get the punchline.

Believe me, I can't understand everything I see in movies, but this one is driving me nuts! What the heck was so funny about it? If any of you remember the episode or the Stooges joke please enlighten this poor spaniard.....  ;D

I remember that episode, but not actual punchline. It actually referred to 'Shemp': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shemp_Howard

I don't remember the exact wording of the joke or punchline, but it had something to do with the fact that the guy couldn't "finish" because the stooges episode he was watching had Shemp in it instead of Curly.  It wasn't funny, so don't worry too much that you didn't get it.

If you're thinking about the 3 Stooges at a time like that, you have worse problems than figuring out a punch line-
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Now that makes sense. Well, I agree it is not that funny, but I guess if you tell it while having some beers with friends while playing billiard it can be hilarious. It is like when you are among friends and you start to tell something funny that happened to you but then the conversation diverts and a couple of minutes somebody tells you: "so what was you going to say"? I always say "Too late man, the time for that joke is not right, it was right when I was going to tell it". Jokes are funny only if said in the right moment. I guess that most of the stand-up comedians jokes wouldn't be so funny if they were not "suppoused" to be funny.

Actually, what was driving me nuts was the fact that I couldn't understand what "Shemp" was, now I do. Thank guys!!!!
