I enjoy following this thread BM650....
Thanks for reading my landspeed blog 😅

Aww, you really think so? All the heavy lifting was done years ago!  Its just refinements now.

When this bike goes on public display.  The people are drawn in by the wild wrap color twist.  Then they see the stance, then the pipes.  Some people realize theres a turbo hidden in there.

But the common denominator is people sleeping on this gem of pizza box engineering.
Rear suspension.  Obviously people see the huge rear shock, but they move on quick.
Its my favorite part of the build, personally.  It took so much effort to make the rear fork and gusset the frame for an offset shock.  Then turning out the bits to fit a ninja rear wheel and brake

Sure the header was a ton of pipe fitting. But the rear end of this bike is what took everything I got to accomplish.

This is not an aerodynamic aid.

Old corrie plastic repurposed to an inner fender lining

It should idle okay.  And soon - Next weekend.  Put fresh lucas oil in it today
Found out the local renegade dealer doesn't stock the ratman pails.  They do have an alternative that would work.
On the fence about dyno tuning at sea level.
Won't be able to really run it until Wendover
Tidied the wiring harness.  Lubed fhe throttle cables.  Gotta set up the fuel lines and firesleeve.
Decide how to finish the new inner-fender. Need to trim a few fasteners and grease the others.
And put the gate and pipes back on.
Gate needs a gasket.  Handy as i just received more gasket making stuff.
Wrapped the air scoop.  Really burning at both ends here.

Have a little special feature on order to livery things up a bit.

I'm still occasionally following on from a distance and being amazed at your leaps and bounds, but you do have to make hay while the sun shines to get there on time. Well done.

On the fence about dyno tuning at sea level.

If it won't run right at sea level, it won't run right at 4500'. Besides, you have a turbo to compensate for altitude; that's why they started using them on airplanes in the first place. ;)

Airplanes! 😎

Last season, the other 550four racers got flooded out by lack of lean jetting.

I have changed a bit about the carburetor.  The pilot and mains are the same.  But i've ditched the alkyhaul needle in favor of the richest gas needle available.  Which should smooth the transition above 3/4 throttle.
The Difference in airflow from the new intakes and compression however.
Between the thunderjet and the boost control i should be able to make more record runs.

Im most concerned about my manifold seals.  Need to make those backup spares.

Ugh, the gremlins got me good today.
But, it will run.
With a new battery and a new switch.  (The handlebar button is a dime a dozen on alibaba so fml)
Bypassed the switch to keep working.  Was cranking and firing up when the battery just nope'd out of the equation.
Hard to tell if the pilot is too little or too much from how brief things were.  A little parts cleaner in the scooper helped.  Carb float needs love too.  Might have been the angle of the carb reaching overflow heights.
Went through the boost control lines and found a leak.  In the wastegate.  While the gauge and leakdown regulator correlate fine, and i was able to adjust the pressure switch for ignition retard.  The loss through the gates valve stem is significant.  40-50%.
Also ran into an issue with the turbos banjo bolt.  The one i had worked up to start with let me down.  Its not getting a good crush on the copper seals.  So i was swapping for rubber core when the threads let go.  Dug through the bins and found a bolt i could make work.  But ordered another feed line banjo kit for posterity.

New everything is on the way.  It was an expensive day off.  And i didn't even leave the house!

Managed to check off a lot of smalls from the list.  Aside from hooking up electrical and finding its not weathered well.  I also made some aluminum gaskets for the intake, should the need arise.  Calibrated the wideband to whatever my shop is.  Setup fuel lines and fire sleeves.  Shortened the seat bolt and painted all the weld nuts with anti-seize.  And got the oil caps safety wired again.  Fixed a few more zip ties in various places to keep things tidy.

Next weekend is gonna be a doozy.

Spent last night going through shorai troubleshooting.
And learned that ...
BMS voltage protection activated.
When cranking down to whatever specified voltage.  System initiates a bypass.  Dropping to zero vdc.
Of course the shorai special charger has a feature to reset the bms.  They also explain how to fix it with a pair of jumper cables.
So, dug out the surplus battery strap and grabbed my old fjr battery (also shorai) and linked the two batteries together pos-pos and neg-neg - within a few seconds the volt meter came on and stayed on.  12.3
So the race bike battery is back, sitting on the trickle charger for now.  The replacement is already on the delivery truck.

Ugh.  At least i have a few week(ends) to sort this stuff out.

The little time that i was able to run the engine i saw some pretty happy vacuum numbers.  Gotta get the idle jet and accelerator pump dialed in.

Pic of home made aluminum gasket.  One set dimpled, another set flat.  Havent fully carved out the flat gaskets yet.

Ahhh, the old DeWalt "dead" battery trick. Works great if a battery still has "potential" but "dead". Good job!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Got some super fast delivery of the replacement waste gate.

The company knew their product would end up on somebodies sh!tb0x project build.  And made it using the same bolt pattern as the cheap imitation part.

Then they stuff 17 pounds of 8 inch long springs inside the cap with 1/2 inch screws.  Like the worlds worst jack in the box.  They recommend using a clamp during assembly and disassembly.  But with the part in sitiu, where to clamp is a problem.

My solution is a pair of long screws
