I have one on the way and am also interested to see how the other ones are used. I have a low mile crankshaft and crankcase, a Big Jay backcut F2 transmission and Carrillo rods but nothing photogenic. Other projects are going to keep me busy in the near future so I might not be able to get right on it.
There are a few good cams in my stash but how they compare to a modern grind like the ones guys have recently dyno tested are keeping me wondering. Per has been very helpful sharing his dyno information which is solid data compared to my opinions, assumptions and old magazine stories. L0L.

Understand.....

Does the backcut transmission gears only keep it from jumping out of gear?

It facilitates the gear engagement....helps the gears "suck" into each other.

I have only backcut trans for acceleration gear 2-4.
2nd typical slip out gear
4 too easy to nudge by foot during acceleration and fall into a false neutral which can be a pain to get out of.

I think there are racing versions that have deceleration cuts too?

My almost stock  K2 (higher compression with Cruzinimage  K7 pistons (+0.50 mm)  has a good transmission without backcut. Not rounded gear dogs.

I feel a difference when I ride my K6 with backcut transmission.
Mostly to not make the mistake of pushing the 4th gear into false neutral  by a fat boot.

If you have a backcut trans to use, use it.
Or if you can get the job done for a good price when building an engine.

Back cutting old 5 speed transmissions is a good idea no matter what the application. The gears have to travel further to engage vs a modern 6 speed. The factories generally put a slight back cut on the dogs and have done it for quite awhile. It's one of those upgrades you learn to appreciate no matter what you platform is. It worked wonders on my FJ....goes into gear just by thinking about it.😆

I was told the GS1100E came with backcut gears, it shifts amazingly. I'm hoping to post pics of a cylinder soon.

I had my F tranny back cut by Gast. Smooth as butter.
