What Year cb750?
« on: April 09, 2025, 05:37:35 PM »
Went to our CVMG section monthly club meeting last night. One of our members wants a SOHC cb750 and asked me what year he should be looking for? I started off telling him it really didn’t matter. If he found a really good one that would be it.

When pressed I told him I’d look for a 1971 cb750K1. It still has the painted fork ears and headlamp shell and small tail light, that add so much to the classic “look”. The carbs have the single slide bridge and are easier to sync. Most of all the HM300 pipes sound the best! What would you have told him?

I also suggested a 1975 cb750F. They didn’t sell that well here when new, but I’ve always thought they are a really flashy, good looking bike! I sold mine to a friend and he’s taken good care of it. Part of the deal was to ask me first, if he ever tires of it……

I think you gave him the best advice.  The K1 is hard to beat!

I love the black side panel on the tank of the later models (K4 on?). Not heard the earlier pipes though, not recently.

I would have been happy with any up to K6, apart from early 'sandcast', as I am using it regularly and putting miles on it. Arm twisted behind my back, it would be a 1975 (K5) in planet blue.

John, don’t forget my K4 is still for sale. The K1 I’m currently finishing is going to be a keeper.

The K1 is a good choice, but I also really liked my orange K2 when I had it.  Parts are common enough, and the black/chrome/metallic orange just screams "70s Honda".  Plus it's old enough to still look vintage.

I used to ride often with a friend who had a Flake Orange K2, I have a Blue K0, his always drew a crowd. It helped his was highly polished, you didn’t want to park your bike beside his, lol.

I would agree that the K1 would be the preferred one to get however they rarely come up for sale in my area. My advice would be either to wait for a K1 if he has the patience to wait for it or grab whatever comes up if it is reasonable, restorable condition. I went from Victoria, BC to North Battleford Sask. for my last one, a K6. I have an addiction problem. Cliff.

What does he want it for? A K1/K0 might be nice to look at, but parts are more expensive if he plans on riding it lots.
F0/F1s have a great engine. F2s/F3s have the fastest engine and decent brakes too. Then of course a Seeley or Rickman is even better to ride and great to look at too

All the K series are fantastic bikes  :)  As I am currently involved in a restoration that appears will go on for eternity and I cannot see  actually riding the bike anytime soon or even on the horizon so I would say buy the bike that runs properly and safely . . . and you can enjoy riding NOW!

I have an addiction problem.

"They" say admitting it is the first step!

I would never admit it.
