Chrome exhaust tape - does it work?
« on: April 17, 2025, 07:28:15 PM »
Hi all,

Has anyone had success with chrome exhaust tape to patch up minor holes in exhaust? I have not seen it referenced in other threads on this topic. I have three really good pipes, but one (upper/outer left #1 exhaust) that is in less than good shape. I don't expect it to be a permanent fix, just make it look, sound, (perform?) better for a while while I source a replacement.

Here is what I am looking at: https://a.co/d/42AUval

It doesn't cost much. Unless the muffler is ready to start shedding pieces I don't see the downside.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Had the same issue on my F2. Used a heavy dolly thing supporting the bottom bit and a few sharp hits on the top bolt cracked the 'seal' and got it undone. Then created the slot to get it off for subsequent efforts. Sorry, wrong post, should have been in airbox!!!

I have seen it used on unreplaceable exhausts before.  It works ok for a long t1ime, but can be extremely noticeable.  Not that you are trying, but you won't be fooling anyone!
If it works good, it looks good...

I have used aluminum tape like this for small holes out of sight, like on the underside.
Works ok for small holes as a semi-permanent solution. Clean the surrounding area well.

I have since trashed the photo of my 1977 CB 750 stock exhaust.. I have installed the Delkavic. The tape worked wonderfully on the multi-holed exhaust. Somewhat of a redneck appearance however
