My attempt at Candy Gold
« on: May 12, 2025, 07:30:45 AM »
As I patiently wait for my 4 into 4 exhaust from Delkevic, I painted my tank and side cover for my 500/4 K1.  I used a 2K epoxy primer, VMR paint and a 2K clearcoat.  I got the decals from David Silver Spares.  Pretty pleased with the results so far.

Beautiful paint job!

Just one thing, I hate to mention it, but the paint may be too high up on the filler neck, could cause paint lifting from gas vapors.

Beautiful paint job!

Just one thing, I hate to mention it, but the paint may be too high up on the filler neck, could cause paint lifting from gas vapors.
+1  My painter painted right to the top of the neck - after filling up and parking in the sun a couple of weeks later, the new paint got little bubbles under it near the top of the neck. I removed the top few mm of paint so that there is bare metal down to below where the cap rubber seal sits, so no further problems!

Thanks for the kind words.

Regarding the paint at the filler, this makes sense. Shouldn’t be too difficult to remove the paint in that area.

When my tank was painted, he also just painted halfway up and I sealed it with clear
