Honda started the 750 with the 16T/45T sprockets. One of the 3 major problems with the chains (this bike was dubbed "the original chain breaker" in 1969) was the small OD of the 16T front sprocket, which flung the oil away from the chain at hiway speeds above 50 MPH. While there were additional factors (I've outlined all of them in these forums, and in my book) that finally solved the chain-breaking and case-destroying results, the first thing Honda did was to send out free 17T countersprockets to all CB750K0 owners (via the shops, and recalls), to slow down the destruction.
