73 750 - oil in stator
« on: April 16, 2007, 05:07:41 PM »
Is this normal?  On my 550 I don't remember having oil in the stator.  On my 78 750, I can't remember there being anything when I switched it for chrome.  My friend's 73 dumped the entire crank case when I cracked open the stator cover.  I know, I know.  Should have drained the oil before starting but I get a little bit ahead of myself sometimes.  I am working under the idea that any liquid around electrical parts is bad but I've been wrong before.  Can somebody tell me if I'm loosing my memory?

For the 750, that's normal, as the entire alternator is sealed.

Thanks.  I just wouldn't want to have any issues with a friend's bike and it's been better than a year and a half since I worked on my 750.  Amazing how fast the brain starts to go.
