Source for quality ignition parts?
« on: May 03, 2025, 05:32:15 AM »
Does anyone know of a source for some reasonably priced, oem quality points and condensers?

Looking on Yamiya, two condensers, a left breaker point, and right breaker point comes out to ~134 bucks shipped to the US.  I’m sure they’re excellent quality but that’s pretty steep considering you can go to an electronic ignition for not too much more in parts. Or carry multiple spares of the chinesium parts.

Does anyone know if these “Masuyama Denki” condensers are any good?  They look old and Japanese made but I don’t think they were oem (?).

Wow that really is the best deal going.  Their website is a mess though. I may have to give them a call.

Speak to another human being, on the PHONE. In 2025.  The horror!   ;)      Thanks for the tip.

¿Is this a source for O.E.M. points & plates, or for aftermarket ones?

South Sound has only supplied OEM parts like these to me. I hope they keep it up?

One of the good things about ordering through them is: they go directly to Honda Japan, so it records with Honda that people still want these parts. The more we keep it up, the more they will supply them: several times Honda has stopped supplying these points sets, and several times they have re-started it again when they saw that they could make $$ from it. Hopefully this continues(?).

Two years ago I ordered 3 sets of them and got them: 1 year ago I tried and they reported "Out of Stock, possibly discontinued", which was the same report I got from them in 2006 and 2012 (it might have been 2014?), but then the parts came available again. So, it goes like that: keep trying and they will probably respond. This was how the owners of the old Benleys/CA95 also got Honda to make new parts for them, years ago.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

That's great to know. Uncle Tony (at ‘Uncle Tony's Garage’ remarked on one of his videos that Hondas policy was, per Honda San himself: ‘buy a bike from me and i'll supply parts for ever’.
Uncle Tony had a mid to late sixties CB450 he needed to restore, and in the late nineties he went to the local Honda dealer and received All the parts he needed direct over the counter.

That's true of Honda-san: the quote attributed him by American Honda was "Honda will always supply the critical parts for the motorcycles we build", circa [supposedly] 1971. I used to have the page from a Honda brochure that showed it, but it got lost in the move into this house in 1993. :(

Just to follow up on this, I was able to place an order for a new complete points plate from South Sound. Then I received a refund a couple of days later due to “Discontinued Parts”.

Bear in mind that anything that originates overseas may be in short supply for the foreseeable future.
'Nuff said.

If you have working points now, you can drop in a Transistorize Ignition and they will stop wearing right where they are. I haven't had to adjust timing on my 750 in decades.
