Hello from NYC
« on: May 24, 2025, 01:26:35 AM »
Hello everyone.

It's 4am and I'm staring at a Facebook listing for a 1971 CB750 for $500.

I already talked to the guy. I'm picking it up in 5 hours. It's going to be a 3 hour round trip with the U-Haul van. It's impulsive, I know.

I've owned 3 bikes before:
2005 ZZR600
1985 Honda Rebel 250
2005 SV650S

I've done the work on all of them. Nothing too crazy, just the usual. Oil changes, air filters, brake pads, brake fluid.

I'm probably biting off more than I can chew since all I've really done is basic maintenance compared to you guys but that's the fun part.

I'm buying this one because I'm bored and want something to do.

That feeling of being at work or school, having a lightbulb go off with a potential solution to a problem, and not being able to wait to get home and try it out. That's the feeling.

Right now, there's nothing to fix. No tension, no excitement, nothing to look forward to.

But this one....I think this one's going to bring all that back.

Welcome aboard the forum Bugabeetle from southern NH. Yes the excitement of the chase is well known around here.
The 71 is a good year to get going and the 750 is a fun bike to ride. I have a friend who only gets 71s as his dad bought a Candy Gold K1 new, and Mike has it now and has restored it plus a few more that he has restored.

You should go into the Project section and start your own new topic on it to keep your progress on it going from the start with your plans for it and update it as you go along, pictures are important for you so you can look back and remember how it came apart(and we like to see them too).

You would be wise to get Hondaman's book on bringing the 750 back to life, it's filled with lots of tips on the different aspects of getting them to run right, real good tips he has learned since he has worked on them from the time he was a wrench(tech) at a Honda shop in 1969 when the 1st 750 came out and still is working on them in his shop at home. It is a valuable tool especially where you don't know the 750. You can find it under the Site Sponsors section(darn, you just missed the 15% discount...)

What are your plans for it? Keeping it stock or???

Welcome to the fun! There's not many bikes that are are restorable as the CB750 and CB500/CB550. Riders across the world still love them, and we're all real happy to try to help out. You're lucky to be close to Newday777, too, if you get in a pinch for something: he'll know what to do.

If you decide to get my book, wait a week: next week the 15% discount returns for a week, this week it's only 10%.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.
