Need input/opinions, SOHC4 parts stash found
« on: May 23, 2025, 09:33:23 PM »
A fellow I know near here has gathered and sold SOHC4 parts (more CB500/CB550 than CB750) for years and years and has become tired of the eBay fight just to do it. He'd like to divest himself of the inventory and has offered it to me, for us: would like your opinions about whether it would be worth the effort? Most of it is apparently disassembly of otherwise-impaired bikes (lost titles, non-runners, etc.), now sorted and stored in file cabinets and the like, in a (water-free) shed. I haven't yet seen the inventory (and its size,  which could be an issue for me) yet, but he's done it for a long time. I have a whole CB500 engine from him, just a year ago, in nice shape.

Opinions?

See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

I'd need to have a look at least, for me it's like looking at a puppy, it's hard to leave without it.

And that's how Steve Blake got into his business Honda Restorations, buying George's house, shop/Museum and NOS Honda Parts(Steve wants to retire now too and find someone with $$$$$$$ to step into his place).

You are fortunate.
I would buy if reasonable and have space.
I have sold on ebay, it is a job ...

Depends a lot on what is there Mark.

As you know some parts are ultra rare and some so reliable you will never sell them but then you literally wrote the book!

Maybe a quick visual inventory and list a few things here. If people want them at a reasonable price they'll go and you won't have to store much for long...

One point to consider is the high cost of shipping anything bigger than the large flat rate box.  Last time I shipped a gas tank USPS was over $100 Michigan to East Coast.
If it works good, it looks good...

Yeah, that's been a real party-pooper recently. :(

pirateship.com has good rates for USPS and UPS. Usually discounted at least 25%. Often more. I use them all the time
