No one makes a 520 front sprocket for a 1976 CB750F?
« on: May 22, 2025, 08:26:34 PM »
I'm looking for a 17T front 520 pitch front sprocket and can't find one.
Cognito Moto make an offset one but I need a standard offset one.
Any ideas?

Could just make a set….🤔
Take the difference off the inside of each sprocket to maintain original alignment..
And perhaps be a benefit when running an oversize rear tire with a chain guard…🤔

520 sprockets are 1/8" narrower than 530.  Because front sprockets are hardened, you can't really turn them down - they have to be ground.  You could do it with an angle grinder, but would need to have the sprocket rotating while grinding for a uniform finish.

A ceramic insert will more than adequately cut the front sprocket, hardened or not…
An experienced machinist can probably do it with HSS and for sure with carbide…

Honda decided 530 wasnt strong enough and went 630 for the F2 so why go weaker, or do you enjoy welding crankcases

You’re really saying a modern 520 chain can’t handle the amazing torque of a SOHC 750?
My rear wheel doesn’t have a 530 sprocket option.
I’ll take my chances.

IIRC, Honda used the same spline on other models. I think the '79-'82 XR/XL 500s used a 520 chain, but I don't know if any 17 tooth sprockets were offered for the dual purpose bikes.

Modern 520 chain sets are holding up on 200 HP bikes, chains have come a long way since the 1969 case breakers.

👍🏻

I also recently ordered a 520 custom fr. sprocket.
I have a little Yamaha 250 that comes stock with a 530 Standard chain.
I want to go O-ring 520 and they had them.
