AS Uotani SP2 ignition
« on: June 25, 2025, 03:49:20 AM »
Has anyone run the full power ignition for As Uotani?  I saw a couple on webike and ebay and it looks like a CDI setup.  But I can't find many(really any) reviews.  Or does everyone stick tothe dyna ignition?
Here's a link to the setup.  https://japan.webike.net/products/21974114.html

Well, with no specifications except "fits CB750 '69" there's no telling if it is going to require more power than your engine can generate, or mot. The Dyna uses more power than the 750 can make until 4000 RPM, so it is really relegated to hiway use only, lest you end up with a chronic low-battery problem. There's hundreds of examples of that in these forums. :(

Even the Dyna units with their 3-ohm coils have pulled so much amperage they melted the RUN-OFF switch on the right handlebars before, too: I've had to replace them and then tell their owners about it on several bikes. Those ain't cheap, and thru-handlebar wiring is a test of wills to install.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The manual is in Japanese, and it costs $700+. The available curves don't look correct for the Honda, but the graph is hard to read. There is a mention of a throttle position sensor, which doesn't apply to our bikes.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Ok.   I'm not going to be running any stock wiring or switches with my set up and plan on getting the PMA upgrade from Anders on here.  So I'm not too worried about power, just wondered if anyone had tried it.  I know they show up cheaper on ebay, but I'd rather go with a known unit if no one knows about these.
