Project Centura
« on: June 27, 2025, 09:02:07 AM »
Thanks to all those who helped identify the wheels in my latest project. Starting a new project thread here now to document the recommission.

I acquired this bike a few weeks ago from the nephew of the previous long term owner, who passed away a couple of years ago.

As I understand it, the bike was last used in the early 90’s and then mothballed.

The PO rode the bike extensively throughout the Uk and Europe, and covered most of the bikes 60k miles.

Photos as purchased…

Plan is to gently recomission the bike, get her running and assess the state of the engine.

Then it will be a full strip and rebuild (not sure how far I’ll go with the engine as its running state will determine that).

Plan will be to try and pay homage to the history of the bike and rebuild as-is with as much of the existing components / accessories as possible (the fairing will stay).

But I’ll likely apply a few modern twists / upgrades….watch this space…

Wow, that cleaned up real nice.

If it was last used before ethanol, the fuel system could be in better shape than expected.   But, of course depends if it was put away "wet" or not.  But typically when vehicles are "mothballed" they drain the fuel.

Good luck!

Nice project, is that a stock swing arm?
Looks like the side cover wing is pointing to the rear, common mistake.

Thanks for the comments. It’ll probably be a ‘slow burn’ project, so I’ll update in stages as progress is made.

The tank is sadly shot internally - definitely stored with ethanol fuel and has rusted badly. I have a few other tanks to chose from.

Rear swingarm is an aftermarket box section - not 100% convinced it’s any better than the stock swingarm, which in my experience is pretty rigid for what it is. If a calfab swingarm landed in my lap somehow then it would be a nice replacement (flying pigs anyone lol).

More as it happens…

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Has been a busy few months for me personally - long story short I’m also a musical theater performer and rat-pack tribute singer, and had a busy summer playing my dream role in the 40th Anniversary production of Les Miserables here in Brighton UK. Gratuitous self-promotion photo attached ha ha!!

Anyway, project centura has taken a slight left-turn as the months have progressed.

I’ll post some photo updates over the coming days and as time allows.

The long and short of it is restoration costs have sky-rocketed here in the UK (especially paintwork) and with lots of parts accumulated over the years, project centura seemed like a good candidate to make use of those parts.

The tank was also completely shot internally (full of old fuel and rusted out beyond economic repair. The side cover were also brittle and repaired in several places.

I have a Yamiya JDM silver K1 body set on the shelf here from an abandoned JDM BUILD, plus some newer DID scripted rims and spoke sets, so sadly the wheels and fairing have made way for these parts.

They have since been sold on with the funds going into the restoration. The box section swingarm has also gone in favour of a stock unit.

Prior to stripping the bike, I rebuilt the carbs and serviced the bike to confirm the powertrain was all good - she starts and runs beautifully with no leaks, smoke or rattling, so for now the engine will be thoroughly cleaned, degreased and prepped for paint. All covers will be professionally polished.

Frame is now back from blasting and painting (2-pack) and the engine has been cleaned/painted/serviced.

She's a CB750 K2 - first registered in the UK in 1974.

Obviously, I'm deviating slightly from the standard UK spec in terms of colour/finish, but I'm sure it'll do the bike justice.

Been playing with AI image generator last night to get a feel for what the bike might look like with the JDM colour pallette.
