Well I didn't get the pans painted this evening as planned as I got sidetracked stripping apart the other 78F seat I had in my upper storeroom, to use the foam to cut up for repairing a couple other seats degraded foam.
I had to be careful handling it because of the extent of rust the pan has suffered.

I also took apart the F0 seat that came on my F1 to get it ready to recover. The pan on it needs painting also, but that will be done at a later date.

As I was pooped out from riding in the heat yesterday I skipped going back again today to the AMCA Yankee Chapter Swapmeet and Show, even though it was a better day today temperature and humidity, so this afternoon I sanded, got poked on the F pan lots.... and then washed the seat pans, compressed air dried them, set them out in the sun to fully warm up and then painted them with 3 coats of Duplicolor DE1635 Semigloss Black. Now I will let the offgas a week before gluing the foam back on and putting the covers on.

The vapour barrier is a good feature. It keeps the really wet farts from soaking into the foam, gives a whole new meaning to a brown rusted seat pan lol!

Last Thursday I glued the foam back on the F3 pan, black plastic edging on and glued the water protector on(painter's masking film).
The new seat cover and strap are waiting on me for stretching and finishing up the recover....

Stu…. The last one I did with my buddy Terry, I learned 4 hands are better than two! Also, he had a box full of office style bulldog paper clips (black clamps with the fold back wire handles?) and they were really useful too!

This week I stretched the cover and held it with the binder clips to inspect the fit and placement, had to do some adjustments which turned out well.
Then today I started pulling it a little tighter, then hooked the cover onto the points, drill the holes for the trim pins and blind screws to go through then tap down the points to set the cover.
I put a dab of black silicone in the pin holes (hopefully it will keep water infiltration from happening!), put the trim on after going to the hardware store to get et stainless nuts and washers. I bought new push nuts but they only had SAE size which ended up too small for the pins so I straightened out the old ones to reuse.

Now I just need to touch up the paint in a couple of dings of the trim and cowl.

Just for the foam to the pan and the plastic sheeting to the foam. The covers were never glued down on the stock covers.

Well done Stu! I recall the seat on my 750F was one of the toughest. All those extra little bits of hardware fastening the side strips added to the job….. Looks great!

Yes it was a lot more work than the K models.
I have another F seat to do for the 76 F1. Waiting for the cover for it.

As to the plastic on the foam, I'll be doing that on all my seats I recover.

I have a roll of sticky plastic painter film, we used to use it on carpet when we had to walk in and out a lot. I'm going to try that on my GS's seat cover. The cover on it now has stitched seams so I assume it has already been replaced at least once.
