450 Clutch Push Rod Question

        I'm in a pickle of a situation. I'm in need of a couple of clutch push rods for my 74' CB450K7 and my 74' CL450K6 projects. I found one on ebay and the seller had it listed for the K1-K5. I have a parts manual that covers the K1-K5 models and it lists the P/N as 22850-292-020. Then I checked on crotchrocket.com and found that K6 is the same as the others, while the K7 has a different P/N 22850-323-000. Does anyone know what the deal is? I can't figure out why the last year of the 450 would have a different part. Anyone with any input? I've poised the same basic questions to 2 different 450 forums and haven't had any responses yet. The seller told me that it would work on the K7 also. I need to do something about this soon, so any input will be appreciated. ;)

Bill - the problem is that you have too many projects on the go. I think you should crate one of those 450s and send it up to me.  ;D    Dave

            Hey Dave and Outlaw, Appreciate the offer but, I wouldn't want to burden you guys. ;D I'm just trying to look out for you all. ::) Wouldn't want to overload you, you know? ??? ::) I went ahead and bought the pushrod. The seller swears that it'll work with the K7 450 also and I just don't understand how or why Honda would change something like that for the last year of the 450. Of course the 500T was there for 75' & 76', wasn't it? :) You guys take care and thank your lucky stars I don't send you something to work on. ;D ::)

Heh thats fine man..just couldnt resist getting into the act with my fellow canadian. ...now that i have sold both project cars and am now down to just my new car and my two bikes i can now focus fully on the K4 and rebuild it as its ment to be. I think this may just be the summer of the CB! lol Sorry for the hijack.

But some metric drill rod and use that. ( after all its what push rod is made from)
If you get high chrome content you don't even have to harden ends.

                      No problem with the ribbing. :D I kinda expect some out of Dave and I think it's nice that you chime in there with him. After all, he needs all the help he can get. ;D Ha!Ha! Heh...yea i had to sell the cars for two reasons...one i needed money for rent and two i wasnt doing much with them. I think i realised i got to the point im actually bored with 4 wheels and just wanted to play with the bikes. Considering purchasing a Suzuki GS1100GK and either leaving all its touring gear on or converting it into a drag bike. Havent decided on that one just yet.

    Hey PJ,

            About that metric drill rod. give me some details. Where do you get it, average price and if you do get the high chrome content, can you round off the ends without affecting the hardness? Any other words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I can usually count on you having some info out of the ordinary and I always find it interesting too. You take care. ;)

         Hey Chris,

                 Yeah, I'd like to do some cars but, cash flow and lack of room kinda put a damper on that for me too. Use to have a 66' Charger and a 69' road runner that I'd like to have again but I couldn't swing either one even if I sold all that I have. :-\ Kinda like to build an old coupe or roadster but there again there's the cash flow and lack of room. In reality, I have too many bike projects and I'm gonna do some cutting back. Just gotta figure out what's gonna go and what's gonna stay. When you decide, I would like to hear about what ever you decide to do as far as the Suzuki GS1100 goes.

Should only be around $10.00 for 6 ft of drill rod but the delivery charge is about $11.00 ::) ::)
I usually wait until I need a couple of things but it depends on which warehouse they are coming from so can get expensive for delivery.

Bill you probably know that that 323 number is 500 four and its distinctly possible that Honda converted the 450 to take the 500 rod.

was the original 450 a complete steel rod or an allot centred steel ended rod?

            Bran, to be perfectly honest about it, I didn't realize that bit of info about the clutch push rod.
     I did find out, by going all the way back to 71' or 72', that the P/N 22850-292-020 was superseded
     by 22850-323-000. I can't say about the original 450 pushrod, but the ones I've seen were alloy
     tubes with inserts in each end. BTW, I've sent Bryan a PM on this. I did go ahead and buy the clutch
     pushrod tubes off of ebay.

Bill, in that case one pushrod i had, in a genuine Honda sealled bag, was a solid steel rod that was gold passivated rond on one end and flat at the other.

The only reason i can see to use the alloy/steel mix would be to reduce weight and possibly the "lag" in the clutch take up, anybody with a 500 knows about the clutch "slip" at takeoff and i havent yet tried the steel one but suspect it will be perfect as long as you dont try "racing" starts and even if we aint too old for those the bikes are getting that way!
