Need Help With Honda Keys
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:31:13 pm »
Last year I bought a NOS Honda Lock Set for my 74 750. This came with a new ignition switch, new seat lock, and fork lock - plus two factory Honda keys. I've looked for spares now for a long time, but haven't seen that number up for sale. I've spoken with Ellen and Andre, Western Hills Honda - they don't have them, nor does the many dealers I've called specializing in old parts.

I'm looking for two 31J keys. If any of you have some old ones or have some ideas on where to find these appearantly odd keys - I'd greatly approciate the source.

Thanks.

Gordon,
If you pull the ignition out it should have a set of numbers on the side. Any locksmith should be able to cut you a key from the #. One key cost me 20.00 locally. Kinda expensive to you can find another ignition and 2 key's for that.

Ace hardware cut keys for my CB550, took them a minute to find the right blank, was a little long, but it works ok.

Thanks guys. I don't want an aftermarket key - I'm looking for a factory key. I'd be happy to find a blank and have my locksmith cut it for me, but those aren't available as far as I know.

Again, thanks to all.

I had tried all over town to get extra keys for my bike ('73 CB500/4) and NO one had a clue, even the ace hardware and several lock smiths.

I was getting pretty frantic having only the one, pretty worn and bent key. One day, for the heck of it, I searched eBay (31J honda key* in titles AND description, for instance with your key as example) and voila! some guy was selling a bunch of factory Honda keys and had mine!!! I picked up 3 of them for $12 total, I think - I doubt you can get generics cut for much cheaper!  :o

I just did that search for you and nothing is coming up, however, the guy might have sold them all or something.. . .if your other source doesn't pan out, keep trying the eBay and they might turn up. I am still amazed at some of the stuff for these bikes that comes up, from time to time, there.  . .  ;D

Have a look at this auction

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=230081329950

I bought a set of nos keys from him a while ago. No hassle. I asked for another set for my CB750, but he told me he was in Florida and wouldn't be back to where he lived -can't remember where- until a few months later. I kept a reminder and emailed him then. He found the code and sold me another set. I remember I opened a thread recommending him.

I think it was a good idea to keep record of everything I buy and who the customer was....  ;D

Good call Raul CB750K1, that's the same seller I bought my keys from!!!

I wasn't sure so I flipped through his feedback a bit, and there I was   ;)

Yes, those keys are excellent - the keys were EXACTLY like my OEM key minus the heavy wear and bend!   lol

What do you mean? The four keys I bought from him were original Honda, with the Honda and Tec engraving, and with the matching code etched.

that they were the right keys, OEM, 'the real deal', exactly like my (severely worn) OEM key in every single mark, logo,'HONDA' etc. .. not generic or a repop?   probably even the same metal   lol     :)  sorry if I was too vague before?

also, he shipped them REAL quick too. . .like here in 2 days? or something
