how am i going to sort the brakes on the chopper ?
« on: July 17, 2025, 06:42:16 PM »
the wheels i've got are invaders with disc front and drum rear.

however i don't want to have any levers/cables on the bars ( will be setting the bike up with internal throttle and clutch, which i can get from India )

what i wonder is if there is a way to set up both ends brakes operating off the rear pedal. If it was a disc rear it'd be easy, just plumb both lines into a car proportioning valve.

i'm not sure whether it would be practical to attach the m/c down below as it would be hard to get the correct pressure ( slightly less on the rear compared to the front ) differential without either getting too much/not enough on one or the other.

any ideas ?

You need to check your local laws first, here in UK you MUST have 2 independant braking systems
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Same here but as there's sod all chance of legally registering it with the 70's US frame, it will be sharing a number plate with another bike which will be (almost) legal

I would keep a brake lever on the bars, but maybe mount the MC remotely and operate it with a cable? You are still going to have a clutch lever aren't you?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

My first thoughts went to the Goldwing GL1100 with the linked braking system, when you press the brake pedal one front disc and the rear disc are applied. I wonder how tough it would be to add a hydraulic actuator to your rear drum's brake actuator rod?

No, won't have a clutch lever, that'll be an internal twist like the advance/retard twistgrip on an old Harley. You can get brand new throttle and clutch setups from India for inch bars.

Good idea, I have a hydraulic ram I was going to use to convert the clutch on the dirt bike, I will have to look further at that, thanks for your brain power
