Lesson Learned - when restoring an old Honda CB never under estimate what first appears to be a simple 5 minute task ;)

Looking at those handle bar indicator lights clamp down bolts . . .  I just received new NOS Honda replacement bolts . . .  it should only take about 5 minutes to replace . . .  Right?  ::)

Right. Do not overtighten and - as a rule of thumb - start fastening the front ones.

Thanks mate.  Old rusted bolts came out quickly.  New bolts are in and I'll start tightening down the front ones first. Under 5 minutes . . .

I will not bore everyone with continuous updates. The new shipment of parts will keep us busy for a long time.

OK one more photo  ;)

Today Kannika told me she wanted to clean the CB550 stainless steel 4 into 2 megaphone exhaust.  It is in poor condition - extremely discolored and heavy scratches.  I told her it would be a waste of time - it will never look good.  Once again I was wrong.  She cleaned with a scotch brite pad and 10% hydrochloric acid solution but it did almost nothing.  Then she sanded with 80 grit (aggressive), then 220, then 400. It was very hard work and her hands turned pitch black.     Exhaust turned out looking like new - shiny with a very subtle iridescence.  Shocked at the transformation.  We will polish with autosol metal polish tomorrow.

Late Edit:  The perspective of this photo makes the exhaust pipes look small.  They are actually very large and wide in the back.

My bride of 48 years frequently proves me wrong. Good thing to listen carefully.
Nice job!
