Cb500 primary chain wearing the crankcase
« on: August 20, 2025, 02:29:16 PM »
Just hypothetical question, I'm about to buy Cb500 K2 and PO said that he has replaced the primary chain few thousands miles ago. However the old chain had already wore the crankcase significantly. I'm wondering would the oil pressure light come on in a scenario when oil passage from oil pump to the filter would have worn open?

Seen lots with wear but only heard of wearing through and not actualy seen one.
If primary chain was changed without changing dampers in primary hub chain will wear again quickly

What's the ID of the oil passage, 6-8mm? It looks like it would take a lot of wear before it would break through?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Years ago I have volunteered to be a guinea pig. My CB500 primary chain is still the original and has done over 140.000kms. I have no intention to replace it. I know of a guy who was interviewed by a motormagagzine when his CB500 had reached 220.000kms and was still in daily use.

Thanks for replies. I'm sure I'm overthinking the problem, bike should be in good condition engine-wise. Both chains have been replaced along with the OS pistons and bearing shells few thousand miles ago. Not sure about the dampers, but I will deal with other bits needing attention first.

Any tips for original or good quality replacement seats and exhaust sets?

Carbs need TLC too, do Keyster sets have good o-rings and gaskets or should I got original packing set? Considering brass parts I already know to use originals if possible..

Bike also needs paint job, but I know good restoration painter in my area and already got a quote from him.

I purchased a seat cover from ebay (https://www.ebay.com/str/gumtwo32) and took it along with my seat to an upholstery shop.

Delkevic makes a great 4into4 reproduction set.

You might could get the Honda carb gasket/oring set from a Honda dealer, I was able to purchase from SouthSound Honda.

For jut the O ring sets for carbs ask Nurse Julie a member here and on uk site, only gasket is the top one and they rarely need changing.
Delkevik exhausts come with all the fittings
