CX500 for $75
« on: April 14, 2007, 10:43:42 PM »
My uncle called and told me he picked up a 1980 CX500 at an auction for $75. Has title and keys but has lots of rust too. It shows 22K miles. I will be picking it up later today. I have no idea if it will start or when it last ran.

He said sell it or part it whatever and we'll split the proceeds.

What do you think? Is $75 too much? I always hated the look of those CX's myself, but there seems to be a loyal following.

A steal!! And an interesting bike, especially if it's the 'standard' version. Unfortunately the price probably reflects the value as a viable runner...but even so parting it out will net you way more than $75.

Well, here it is. I just gave it a power wash. It was very dusty.

It is a lot cleaner than my uncle described, although there obviously is a lot of work ahead if I am to get it road worthy.

As you see it is the deluxe model. (what are the diffs in models anyway?)

It has 22k miles on it, and was last licensed in '91.

I like the knee indentions on this model tank. I am afraid if I start looking at this bike too much, it might start growing on me!

The only thing holding you back is your enthusiasm for the project. And perhaps the depth of your wallet! The good news is that there is a fervent group of like-minded owners out there.....

A new seat and some hard polishing and that bikes ready to go! Those are very dependable bikes.

I really like CX's - lot  of potential! Just saw a really ragged one nearby - was all beaten up and choppered out with hand-painted flames on it. Guy wanted like $400 or something, not running.
I think you got a great deal...

If you decide to part it out, please PM me re: the CDI unit.
They are great bikes (as any owner will tell you). See my post in the other CX thread on here.
