Harley Davidson Servi Car
« on: September 05, 2025, 01:44:09 PM »
Yes I have decided I want one.  Not that long ago they were a dime a dozen because they are slow with the flat head 45 motor, very much on the ugly side and sold off by a lot of Police Departments when their time was done.   Now the prices have gone through the roof.  I have talked to a couple of sellers, done a ton research, and offered some vintage Hondas in trade, but no luck so far.  I fully realize it may be time for the home, but I have a vision of cruising over to our local soft serve ice cream stand for a cone on one, it is only few miles away, could be an all day trip......

My town had them in the 60's, meter maids for the meters, long time ago.
A guy in Chicago bought 100 from the Chicago police, still sells parts on ebay.
You can buy a running WL or servicar for $15k

1969 Harley Davidson Servi Car, 23k on clock, former Houston Tx. police bike.   Needs the normal, carb dial in (Mikuni replacement, I am going to have to do some research, been dealing with Kelins forever), good cleaning, oil change, tune up, and lots of practice with the foot clutch and side shift......Nice winter project......Who needs speed at 76 years of age, the seller was 87 and in a hell of a lot better shape than my fat arse........and oh yea the siren still works..........

Congrats.  I think you'll find the Mikuni's easy to service once you tear into them.

Check out my thread on them...

When you get to ride it, I'd love to read a ride report.

Don, In a nut shell, "It will scare the hell out of you".....

I have an issue to address concerning what I like to characterize as a Death Wobble that will put any Jeep you have ever owned to shame.  I have helped it somewhat experimenting with tire pressure.  There is also a new front tire and tube on the way since the current one in place has seen better days and I believe it might be cupped from wear. I would estimate a good 5 or 6 pounds of wheel weights should produce a pretty good static balance of the Massy Ferguson like front wheel.  Working on it is entering a New World of wrench turning.  I had to order a set of extra long allen sockets since when you pull the front wheel you have to take out the brake drum bolts and leave it in place when you drop the wheel keeping track of the number of spacers that probably roll across the garage floor.  I will also readily admit I must get tunned in to riding a three wheeler, as much as I try I still find myself at times trying to lean into corners.  The foot clutch and tank shift is getting much easier and I am enjoying shifting at blinding speeds of 30 to 40 miles per hour.

All of that being said, If is probably the most fun I have ever had on mortorcycle in my 76 years on this old Blue Marble.  Yep it is senlity........

Oh, and let me add, How many of you remember the "Baby Huey" cartoons that used come on years back, I can relate, it takes up nearly the whole front section of the garage.  The Hondas are really giving it the evil eye.........

Cut the short arm off, use socket and ratchet to remove lug nuts, works best.
