CB550 Top End Bolt Kits
« on: September 08, 2025, 06:52:05 AM »
I can't see reusing the upper end bolts and screws that came from the factory.  I see a lot of bolt kits out there but hard to tell exactly what they are for, i.e., many fit side covers, etc.  Looking for recommendations for a top end specific bolt set.  Anybody purchased one and what are your thoughts?

Thanks, Jim

Dont do it, the ones holding the cam cover on in certain places need to be round head jis or you cant get the rocker caps off, also the heads of allen bolts fill with water and corrode, even stainless ones

BryanJ is right

I got the bag of red label stainless screws off ebay.  They do conflict with the 550's tappet covers.  And the screws included for the center setters front and rear were wrong.
For me, it was about the convenient certainly of using a hex bit socket and torque wrenches.  My motor sees routine re -assembly.  Would still be wise to source some button head screws for the troublesome ones.  As for crud and corrosion - the harley shop sells socket bolt covers and plugs!

The lower case kit was worth it 100%
