Howdy from Texas
« on: September 12, 2025, 01:20:09 PM »
Howdy everyone,

Couple years ago I found a 1971 CB500K rolling frame for sale on Ebay for 71 dollars that was pulled out of a barn in Michigan and hadn't been on the road since 1984. All of this sounded great and decided that it was at that point I wanted to rebuild a motorcycle from the ground up. Various plans came and went, like "what if I put a cb600R engine in this frame" or "maybe you could build something electric" because finding a cb550 engine was proving more difficult than I originally anticipated. Fast forward a year, and I find a shop in Austin with a spare untitled frame and engine for sale for $500. Everything turned freely and it was a bargain in my mind. Shortly afterwards I decide that if I am going to commit to this, I need to go all in and replace the front end too and ended up buying a 2001 Yamaha R6 front end. I have slowly been piecing things together, but still have some major milestones to hit including redoing all of the wiring since I didn't have any to begin with,  wrapping up the front end (have some triples being made currently), powder/paint (have to find a gas tank first) and first firing after being dormant for who knows how long. Unfortunately, it looks like I may need to move here soon, so I hope to finish it before then or I might have to part it out.

That's the dream right there. Need to figure out what tank they are using because I'm pretty sure my roller came with a 360 tank not a 550

I don't have a 75 550K tank available that someone beat in knee pockets that needs finishing. The inside has just been derusted with Evaporust(there was minimal surface rust as seen in the last picture before I put the Evaporustin)

This is exactly what I am looking for, Have been talking to some local welders to see if they could modify a universal tank I have, but they all seem a little hesitant. If you have one that comes in again, let me know because I am interested.
