Wiring loom K6 vs K7
« on: September 23, 2025, 07:29:01 AM »
Goodday!

i've recently bought a cb750 k7 that had been standing for a while. We got the bike running but needs some
love next winter. The wiring harness is bad shape and i'd like to replace it. I found them on ebay for the K6 and F.

Does anyone know if either of them would work on a K7? If not, Could it be modified?

Best regards :D

I haven't used one personally, but I've heard that people have had good luck with harnesses from vintagecb750.com

There is a full "type" difference between the K6 and K7 wiring. The K6 is like the K5 and K4, while the K7 is closer to the F2. The K7 uses an Ignition key in the instrument cluster while the K6 (and earlier) uses an Ignition key  down under the front left side of the fuel tank.

The F0/1 version (with the keyswitch in the instruments and the warning lights next to the key) uses a small triangular plastic box under the tank to hold some extra wires (horn, missing keyswitch, 2 others) that wouldn't fit into the smaller headlight bucket, mounted where the earlier K0-K6 had that Ignition key (this is the odd #12 part in modern wiring harness depictions, like at CMSNL).

The F2/3 wiring is different from the F0/1 wiring, missing the little triangular plastic box but having the keyswitch and warning lights up in the instruments like the F0/1. The K7/8 followed the F2/3 concept, and they both use the -405- series wiring harness.

I’ve used the vintagecb750 K7 harness and it worked great. A few of the wire colours are a slightly different shades than the originals but it’s an easy swap.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll have to look for a k7 one. Such a shame that they are almost double the price on ebay, And shipping one from the states with taxes etc would also get expansive real quick. I'll let you know what i'll do.

Vintagecb750.com is in Canada and their shipping rates are extremely reasonable. Check them out before you do anything else.
