77 cb550 pinned rocker shaft question
« on: November 07, 2025, 09:35:31 AM »
Hi,

I have cam cover from a 77 cb550 that I am putting on a 71 cb500 motor.  It didn't come with nuts on the pin threads and I need the torque specks (if there are any) for the nuts.

I tried torquing them to 7 ft-lbs but it just didn't feel right so I stopped.  Do I just put thread lock on them and snug them down?

Any insight would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Bud.

When I installed the pinned valve cover on my '76 550, I couldn't find torque specs either.  If I recall, I snugged them up about 6-7 ft lbs with some blue lock tite.

Denward17,

That's what I did.  Now to move on to the next crisis.

Thanks for the reply.

Bud.
