One of our members needs a set of later style (pancake) turn signals. I have a box full so offer to post him a few. Used to be able to box stuff up, mark as “used parts for +50 year old motorcycle”, and drop by the post office to mail it off. Very little hassle and rates were reasonable (if you’re not in a rush).

Not anymore. My first visit to the Post Office earned me a “To Do” List.
Start by visiting canadapost.ca/newUSduties. Next I had to open an account at zonosprepay.com and prepay (if required) the duty. When completed a release form is provided, that I must present at my local post office. Next I went to canadapost.ca/customs to fill in another form providing my address and phone number along with those of the recipient. Did all that and next up is another trip to the post office…… Phew.

Pain in the butt and expensive these days.

I know tons of Canadians have PO Boxes just across the border in Washington, in places like Blaine or Bellingham. I imagine it would be a pain to try to coordinate any kind of back and forth between Canadian and US members, and I dunno really how much volume goes back and forth. I'd be willing to mail stuff on either side -- I'm driving across the border but not until March.

Good news is I valued them at 2 X $20 and labeled them as”Used and “Gift”. After filling out the US Customs form, I didn’t have to pay any duty. The postage was more than $20 but at least someone is using the stuff instead of sitting in my shelves!
