New shipment arrival with the parts needed to finish the job (hopefully)

The upper bushings from the old fork ears came out fairly easy. Metal rims were a little rusted but rubber was still good. Not hard or brittle with no tears. Cleaned up nicely and IMO reusable with a thin coating of red rubber grease.

Lower bushings are in super tight and I can't get them out. No worries - cleaned in place and then a thin coating of red rubber grease.

Old fork ears have been put away and keeping them as spares. New Yamiya fork ears, new upper and lower bushings, NOS chrome trim, and new rubber boots/gaiters installed easily. Ready for the front forks

Yamiya vs Frankenstuff K1 side covers. The Frankenstuff covers were purchased earlier before I changed direction and purchased the Yamiya Candy Gold body set

looks like the frankenstuff cover won't allow the emblem to be as recessed as it should be.

Unfortunately I did not try the emblems on the Frankenstuff side covers but to my eye the recessed area looks fine. The holes need to be drilled out completely before installing the emblems. From the backside the Frankenstuff covers don't look like they have a deep enough depression for the emblems but they are extra thick - very heavy duty construction and look indestructible. Emblems were installed on the Yamiya side covers and are now in place with new grommets on the bike - they look fantastic

All Done. That little latch spring thingy sure is a fiddly little devil. NOS Original Gas cap would not close and after 2 hours trying to close the cap finally realized the star spring mechanism was too thick

Not all Honda CB gas caps are the same. Swapped in the press fit spring mechanism from the original K1 gas cap and it worked fine. Honda Tank Emblem stems were too short so squeezed in the mounting clips, added a layer of rubber tape wrapped around the stems, and added double sided 3M trim tape for extra safety. Emblems are now firmly in place.

Mini 3mm round diamond metal file essential for filing out the gas cap and latch mounts on the tank and the gas cap latch interior so the pins will fit through.

Thanks Mate. Not easy with my Gorilla Hands. Kannika positioned the spring while I pushed down on the latch and at the same time tried to push the pin through the spring. Really the latch spring is a job for tiny little hands like Santa's elves.

Certainly not a physically demanding day but mentally challenging. Hopefully keeping my brain learning might stave off or at least slow down dementia and alzheimers in my old age? It's a great hobby and better than drinking or gambling. Plenty of worse vices but I could sure use a few cold beers right now.

I always push down on the cap before the latch but I somehow managed to snap a latch on my brothers K2. I bought the bike back but it would be on me to fix it anyway. I think I have a spare one in the totes with a screw acquired from Hondaman a while back. On the road this would have been a problem since the cap is now stuck shut.

New throttle cables installed and new NOS Honda tank rubber mounts. Gas tank is on

I had a hard time getting the tank to fit in the front. Even with force it would not seat forward. I put a thin coat of silicone grease on the rubber mounts and inside the tank mounts and the tank slid right on like butter. Yamiya tank is a perfect fit.

Just waiting for the early K1 smaller size side reflectors and K1 red side cover jewel emblems

Many thanks for all the very kind comments. Yes, restoring bikes is VERY addictive. A quick photo of the "other" one. This CB550 popped up for sale very cheap so I couldn't say No

Reminds me about my motorcycle tours thru Germany to Austria, former Jugoslavia and Italy from Sweden.
A real kick when riding there in the 80's, my 20's.
France- Andorra-Spain the last long trip 1988. The Pyrenees is very nice too.

Dolomites from the Italian side looking in the Austrian direction another wow!!

I need a time machine! My CB750 K6 that I rode on back then is my time machine today.
But it would be nice to do the undone of the 80's

...and 90's....

I remember seeing something about tank fitment issues on the Yamiya page, I think it referred to the rubber mounts.
