I have a neighbour with an immaculate ‘90’s FORD truck, hidden away in his barn. Very low mileage. If I needed a truck, I would talk him out of that and then drag it around to a few specialty shops for “freshening”. Likely a better investment than a new one and missing all the “extras” I don’t want.

Adaptive cruise control is one modern feature I really like that my 2021 Tundra has which older vehicles do not have.

I have the adaptive cruise on one of our vehicles, once ya set it up yer good to go.

My wife's new Nissan SUV has it, used the adaptive cruise once, it felt odd and I didnt like it.

   It's a leap of faith thing, the first few times it'll leave you wondering if its good or bad. On the open road with the proper distances and max speed set up between you and other autos its pretty good. We left home (albany) and drove to Boston last june, had it on right up to entering downtown.

Not too much of cruise controls and other gadgets in a new car.

The car will ask for a ride plan and reply, outside your allowed zone.

Just got a new compact suv with it. ok on the hwy. I turned off all the other "aids". Don't like those.

I rented a Corolla that had lane assist.  It was very intrusive and drove me nuts.  Most of the trip was on the interstate where I like to keep maximum room between me and commercials vehicles as I pass on the left.  The lane assist would see the fog line and keep nudging me back toward the trucks. It took me about 50 miles before I figured out that an icon that resembled a squashed bug  in the convoluted menu was how to turn the blasted thing off.  Not very intuitive.  I seriously considered turning around and returning the car until I figured it out.  I hear all these sensors have also greatly increased the cost of replacing a windshield, which are as susceptible to rock damage as they ever were.

yep...my corolla cross...turned off as much as I could. Adaptive cruise is connected with cruise so only sensitivity is adjustable. autostart is on unless turned off.
busted windshields?...yep gonna cost. A minor front end collision can destroy cameras, sensors ..$$...
Didn't activate toyota app, Siri....none of that tracking crap.

I bought my 93' F250 4x4 diesel in 98'. It now has 147k miles and still running strong. I have been through the suspension, steering and brakes. The suspension got Skyjacker soft ride springs and nitrogen shocks. Everything between the steering box and the wheels was replaced with a Superrunner center link steering linkage. I also installed a Detroit Locker in the rear axle and rebuilt the brakes. The transmission is now a stage II towing transmission with a double clutch torque converter. The motor is the last year of mechanical injection with a complete Banks Sidewinder turbo kit including the free flowing exhaust.

It would cost me over $100k the replace the truck with a new one that probably won't last as long or be as reliable. I've had it for 27 years and it will be my last pickup. It should serve the boy for many years as well.

I bought a 1990 Chev K 1500 Silverado from the original owner maybe 20 years ago with 80k and now it has 245K. Needs a paint job and some body work but still my everyday driver. I will never buy a new truck or car that cost more than it did to build my house here is a pick of it shortly after I got it.

Oh I hear you on that. After having a new car dealership waste 3 hours of my time trying to sell me an overpriced new truck, I went across the street to a used car dealer. I told the salesman I wanted cruise control, full size bed, A/C and power windows and nothing else. It's a 2010 F150, I bought it in '14 with 16k on the od and it's basically a base optioned, possibly a contractors truck but it has what I wanted. Currently has over 100k on it and has just recently displayed its check engine light for the very first time, with a trouble code saying I need to look into new O2 sensors. I changed spark plugs in it earlier last summer just for preventive maintenance and was kind of spooked about doing it at first with all the spark plug issues the Ford modular engines have but mine is a 2 valve engine which supposedly doesn't have broken spark plug issues that the 3 valve engines seem to have.

 I had one of those but it was a step  side,  with a 300 6. the fuel line was too close to the manifolds and would overheat the gas in the fuel line leaving air bubbles in it ,starving the engine till it stalled. The fuel tank was under the seat and the filler was on the corner post next to the door handle.  After it stopped running it wouldn.t start on it's own unless I popped the cap and blew really really hard into the tank , to force the fuel to travel toward the carb again... and that was with with a foil wrapped fuel line.  That truck was a beast in it's day ,rust ultimately took her from me, but the 300 was still strong.

I have to go out and check the odometer for the exact selling price, but it is north of $400K.  My dad bought it in 1966 when it was a year old.  I remember going with him to look at it when it looked like a new truck.  It is on its fourth engine.  It came with the 352 that was replaced with a used 390 when it wore out. Then another 352 that was a bad rebuild that only went 40K, then the 390 that is in it now.  The 390 is strong and will be the last one probably.  Although I have taken some measurements to see what it would take to fit a Coyote in there.  It would fit, but it is a fantasy that I will ever do it.  It has the NP435 4-speed and Dana 60 limited slip axle, with frame and suspension set up like a camper special.  It was a beast in its day, and will do what most modern pickups will do, except pass a gas station.

Mine is a 1980 F350. Quite gutless “351” (first year of air pump).It’s sadly rotten and only goes up and down the driveway to plow. Brakes are “marginal”. One day the frame will let go and that will be the end of it…… I love it.

when i got out of college in '78 , sold my '63 fairlane 500 sports coupe and bought a '64 ford  f-250 4x4 .  on her third engine , a '64 z code 390 , 300hp .  family can sell after i'm dead .
