That only silences the reasonable and caring.  Carrion feeders will always swoop in to take advantage of the dead.

Oh, come on, who are we kidding here?  Does anyone here think anybody who lost someone in that horrible massacre is reading posts on the SOHC4 website this week?

That is kinda cold dude. No it is f**king A cold. We have people here who went to that school, may go to that school and some that live nearby and lost a neighbor. I received a a very touching PM from someone who lost someone very close to them a few weeks ago. You cannot predict who is reading, and maybe they need a distraction.

OK, point taken.  I don't think I've posted anything offensive to any of the victims or their families, but if there are greiving people here who are looking for a distraction, I'm sorry if I have appeared insensitive.  I have children of my own, and I cannot imagine losing them to such a senseless event as this.

No harm done. Hug your children tonight and every night and raise them not to be a twisted monster like that POS.

Not sure if I knew anyone there yet since I meet most of the folks I know
from VT in other venues. And I've not seen a complete list of the names.
We know many folks who work at Tech and are students there so it
was pretty close to home.

I do know they interviewed a young Black man who was shot and
he had the best attitude of anyone I've heard as how to deal with this.
I hope some of y'all got a chance to hear the interview, I'm not sure if
is on line but if I find it I'll post it since I know I couldn't do justice
to what he had to say.

oops just found a link;

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/19/earlyshow/main2703697.shtml

I didn't see the video link to the interview it may be in there somewhere.

List of victims,

Thanks Bill, it is a small gesture. But, I remember how people showed support for us in NY after 9/11.

The fact is that random killings like this are committed by otherwise law abiding citizens, not Mafia hit-men, and everyone here on this site with a fascination for guns is just as capable of committing the same atrocity as that gutless little peanut.

Take away the guns, and you take away the threat. You don't trust your government? Try getting off your ass and voting guys, that's what we do everywhere else! (and we still don't trust them, but don't see a need to arm ourselves against them) Cheers, Terry.  :'(

Yes, another hugely sad day in the global scheme of things. The fact that so many people died in one atrocity is bad enough; the fact that hundreds of others die in ones and twos in weapons related violence in the US every year is worse.

Erm, well said, Terry. Take away the weapons (guns have wheels, dontcha know) and you take away the threat. Make the penalty for ownership so harsh that no one would consider doing so.....

Well, then you'd better ban knives, rocks, fire, fertilizer, boxcutters and pointed sticks too, because the murderers will simply use whatever tools are at their disposal.  Murderers have proven their ingenuity time and time again for thousands of years.

Sure, but how many students would have met their end with a box cutter in this instance?

Unless his dad had a hunting rifle not locked up, what would his choices have been?

Something as simple as 5 gallons of gas could've trapped and killed hundreds of students.  Someone mentioned Happyland earlier.  I grew up in the Bronx, and remember that incident well.

From the interview with Evans (the student who got shot in the leg)...

Evans says he bears no ill will toward Cho.

In fact, he says he feels sorry for him: "I wish I had a chance to meet him before this happened, so that I'd have had a chance to reach out to him."

"You know that sounds crazy!" [the interviewer] interjected.

"Yes," Evans acknowledged. "If someone could have reached out to him, none of this would have happened."

Evans says the only pain he feels is for the families who lost loved ones — this from a man with a bullet still lodged in his left leg.

And as for healing?

"The key to healing," Evans said, "and the first step, the most important step, is to forgive. I forgive that shooter.

"I'm alive. I'm healing. I'm just so blessed. Words cannot describe how blessed I am."

You know, the thing is, that's the kind of attitude that it takes to get past things. So many want to go over and over with things and I'm no exception. I tend to keep talking it up and all and that doesn't do any good. I'm working on myself (with God's help), to get over and get on with things like I should. You would just have to be in their shoes to really feel what they are going through. I can only imagine. The thing is, Evans is right, so many (probably not all) situations could be avoided if folks would really see what's happening around them and make an effort to reach out to others. Sometimes, We (me included) are so wrapped up in our own little world that we don't even see obvious signs that a person needs some help. Even if we can't help a person, maybe we can get someone who can. A lot of times folks just don't want to get involved. "Let someone else do it", they say to themselves. We should, and need to, get involved because someday it could be us that needs that involvement in our lives. Think about it. :(

Gee Bill, you're up to your eyeballs with involvement on a day to day, hands-on level.  How much more involved could you get?
You don't mention it too much, but you're definitely an example to go by, IMHO.

 huh...?

Having had my share of deaths (but no kids) and personal whacks from different directions, I would have to say that distractions are not bad.  I realize that everyone is different, but humour- however dark at times- has certainly been a survival tactic of mine.
