All Ground Connections Created Equally?
« on: March 05, 2026, 03:26:27 PM »
I’m installing new wiring harness on ‘75 750. All connections are made from rear to front and now working on the Headlight bucket. As many of you know, there are green ground connecters where four, three and maybe two ground connections can be connected to a common ground in the harness. So, if I connect one ground, say from headlight bucket chassis ground, can any other ground from subharnesses be joined? Wiring diagram shows specific grounds going to these connectors but does it matter?

As long as all bolted grounds go to clean, paint removed areas no.
Plus clean where the main ground goes and remove paint either side of the mounting plate or starter current will travel through the small green wires and they WILL melt

Whenever I remove the headlight bucket or fiddle around in there any green will do for any of the connectors in there. I also add a ground to turn signals mounted on the headlight ears since sometimes they don't get a good ground due to paint or the rubber bushings at the top or bottom. Any ground will do for anything, except the main ground wire to frame from the battery.

Those multiple ground connections in the headlight all return to the same wire in the harness anyway. I've been known to tie the extra flasher green wire to the frame near the seat latch, just because. My 750 with CD ignition has a couple extra ground wires that attach to stock frame grounds and then go to the battery.
That said, a stock 750 just needs the ones Honda gave it to work properly, I do put the big battery ground between the frame and engine.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

^^ Like DonR said: make sure the big Black wire ground lug from the battery goes in between the frame and engine back by the countersprocket. If you put it on the outside of the frame there, the bolt squishes up the frame by 1.5mm , effectively "bowing" the whole frame toward the right side by that same 1.5mm.

Then if you go out on the racetrack (around here it's also called 'the freeway'), the bike feels odd, turning more quickly to the left than to the right at high speeds. Very annoying...

Oh boy, that would not be fun.
Here, we have almost no roads with speed limits over 45 but you’d never guess that by observing the vehicles doing what Frank would call “criminal speed”. By Frank I mean Fridays with Frank on YouTube. Fun channel from Arizona.
