1984 Yamaha QT50 (cuties) (Yamahopper)
« on: March 05, 2026, 02:28:32 PM »
I am getting a pair of these bikes running for a friend. They sat for a couple of years when they wouldn't start a few summers ago. Cleaned the carburetors and installed a new battery and they both started on the first kick with an auxiliary tank. Waiting on petcocks to arrive. The old ones were shot as the strainer bowl is plastic and they disintegrated when removing.
I personally have never seen one of these.its pretty cool they are street legal with sequential license plates. Both have 1900 Mike's -+25.  2 stroke with oil injection.

We use one at the drag strip, it's titled, and this year I serviced the carb and got it up to 30 mph the first time. I might throw a license plate on it. some of them have an rpm limiter that often fails, it's a small black box under the seat, if those have them you can simply unplug it and forget it. No rewiring required.
I was worried about the injector working and was adding a little pre-mix. It was too much and once I decided to trust it the bike ran a lot better. I cleaned the oil tank and went to Amzoil synthetic 2 stroke oil, it smokes less.

Great thread Don
I assume the injectors are working properly . When I started and ran them there was smoke but not too much. Smelled like a 2 stroke should.
What is the start/run positions on the key switch. What happens in start  mode that only allows it to idle?
