I think many folks overestimate chrome's durability. It can be marred quite easily.

Oh, the high heat paint trick is very cool, I never thought of that. Great idea.

Good price….. when I did virtually the same parts (for the SC project) here in Canada it was about 50% more than that!

Afterwards, I met a few local hot rodders that send their work to a shop in Mexico for huge savings. Reminds me I need to get that contact info…..
Thought I'd jump in here with this...
I just returned from my friend Jose's body/paint shop.  He's finally gotten around to painting the stripe on my VMR CRR painted Wixom fairing.  I'll post back with pix when it's finished.

Anyway, he's restoring a Jeep Wagoneer and has some roof rack brackets to rechrome.  Jose' is from Mexico and in the past he sent a lot of chrome work down to Mexico but told me today that the cost of crossing back and forth across the border these days negates the savings he used to enjoy.  Of course, YMMV.

I should tell Jose' about the nice review of Dan's shop in TN.
And where is your "local chrome guy", Johnie?

Speaking of re-chrome cost. I just had my tach and speedo bezels on my GL1000 done...$300. I guess I should not be surprised as there is a lot of labor in this stuff. Turned out real nice. Gauges are so upfront with no fairing and the Honda chrome was not good. This chromer is local and I’ve been using his services for 25 years.

Surprisingly, those bezels were still available for my 1969 S/C project but when I ordered two from Honda I got two with the same part number. The one they supply now has a “universal” cut out on the underside, so it fits both tach and speedo. I wanted to keep the originals…. $300 and done.

Don't use autosol metal polish on your new chrome - it will leave very fine scratches or swirls (don't ask me how I know this!). I think they make a "chrome" polish?
