FUNNIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN ON A MOTORCYCLE
« on: April 17, 2007, 05:14:05 AM »
This is a true story (you can't make things up like this):
My buddy gets an XS-1 Yamaha. On his very 1st ride after sorta restoring it all winter, he didn't have a battery, so he bungied a HUGE ST1300 battery to the seat, rigged jumper wires, took it for a ride and as he rode down the block, the wires melted, started smoking and lit his pants on fire. I watched it ALL happen (priceless). Thank goodness we had plenty of beer (before and after) to quelch the flames.

No Pictures?  Doesn't your phone have a camera?  This should be a lesson to us all.  At the slightest hint of something being that funny, trot out some kind of imaging device.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

I once saw some dude on a sporster riding down the street with a 30 pack of Old Style between him and the tank  ;D I was gonna follow him to watch him dump himself and the beer all over the street but I had to be somewhere..

Funny how people dont think sometimes...

My same buddy w/ the ST1300 has perfected the technique of carrying a case of beer on his passenger seat w/o a bungy.

A guy I work with told me a story about strapping a KEG to the luggage rack of his KZ 750 and, at one point, two cops helped him stand the bike up after he dropped it at a stoplight.

There's an old guy who cruises past here from time to time on his Harley, towing a flat-bed trailer with his German Shepard standing on it. The dog's leash is tied to the trailer and he stands in the middle of it. And he wears goggles!  ;D

Several years ago, a buddy of mine was coming down the mountain and lost it.  He was wearing a down filled jacket at the time, so when he hit the ground, his jacket burst and feathers went everywhere.  POOF!!!

It looked like he hit a damn chicken!!!

Luckily he was unhurt (except his pride), so it's a funny story now!

Look at that, a whole new meaning to "Tarred and Feathered" ;)

I use to carry my fishing pole, and I have also had desktop pc's on the bike as well.

Awhile back I was forwarded a lot of pics of motorcyclists in Hong Kong riding around with all sorts of unbelieveble loads on their bikes. Totally insane. One had a huge fish on the back...it was easily longer than the bike itself. At least the fish was dead!

Long story, but...I wish I had a picture of me riding with a 260 lb passenger carrying a driveshaft from a mid-70's Chevy pickup in one arm and holding onto my waist way too tight for comfort with the other arm...

As a student years ago, we had a motorcycle "treasure hunt" - on the list was a kitchen sink and a pretty girl....I rode back with both - stopped by the pretty girl and asked her to come with me on the back of my CB350 which she did and picked up the kitchen sink along the way...needless to say it was a tight squeeze  ;)

cheers

:D Years ago while going home from working second shift, I helped a motorist with a flat tire and no spare find a open filling station in a rural area, after midnight....myself, the motorist...and his full size tire on my '73 CL 450. About 20 miles later we found a open shop... :D

The funniest thing that the neighborhood girls saw (many years ago) was me. It was winter time and I was riding my 1977 CR 125 in the snow.  I saw a snow bank and the girls were watching and the awesome thought of me flying through the bank with snow flying everywhere went through my mind. It would have made a great picture.
So I went through the gears and built up speed and ran into the snow bank and my front wheel stuck in the snow, stopped the bike, and I went over the bars. To add to the embarassment, my kill switch got wet and I had to push the bike home. The snow sure looked fluffy when I was thinking it through.
It's funny how these type of things are usualy preceeded with "Watch this!"

Back in the late 70's when I was young and well okay dumb. I had a gal on the back of my Kaw 400 triple. She wanted me to race a Harley that was next to us and ya laughing at my little crotch rocket. well I gladly did just that but lost as she was laying on her back hair flying behind us as I had hit the gas she let go and all that kept her on the bike was her feet jammed under my arm pits . Her bag was hung on her neck and it was spewing
Stuff down the road. Sad part is I lost the race because I was laughing so darn hard. (Okay like I said not to smart back then racing with some one on the back) but boy the speed shop were my buddies and I parked all sure had a good laugh also as it was done right ion front of them. The best part is the gal that wanted to ride with me got pushed aside by this one but lets just say she would never ride with me again but chouse my buddy.
second one was I used to do really long burn outs ( smoke the tire tell it blew but moving the whole time at a crawl) and also ride a mile down the strip on a wheelie . Well this same buddy wanted to try it but instead of holding the front brake and letting it out slowly he just grabbed gas and dumped the clutch. needless to say his 500 triple jumped straight up in the air and then fell down on it's side .( broke the electronics ignition and I then had to tow him home . the tow was done with two bra's that the gals let us use, a belt and shoe lace and no this is not made up but true #$%* I was one hell raiser back then some days wonder how I got this old the way I rode and lived let alone drank and well ingested other things back in them days

few years back use to work with a guy that told me about the first and last motorcycle he owned.

in 1969 when he was on the young side he baught a brand new bsa right off the dealer,
when he had it a week he decided he was going impress the young ladies at a local high school,
he started reving his engine when the ladies where going home,
dropped his clutch while looking cool, bike jumped tossed him on back and wrapped it self around a telephone pole total bike
he hasnt touched a motorcycle since, not sure what hurt more bike or his pride :D

Back in the Eighties I was at a rally and they were having a contest for the rattiest bike. One guy had an old, dirty, rusted panhead and hanging from his forward controls was an open tampon!  ??? It didn't help to stop his bike from it's territorial pissings though.

Hey ledbetter ;D

I could have picked any southern state really, but a good friend of mine hails from near Huntsville so I thought I'd personalise it a bit ;)

What's so manly about chasing a woman these days, most of them will drop their drawers for the price of a beer, as Terry will no doubt confirm a good sheep will play hard to get ;D

my numbers came from Federal records, so they probably aren't that accurate;)

Shame I don't have a scanner. I have pictures of me, taken by a freind of mine in a car next to me, riding along with a 12 pack case of bottled beer sitting on the tank, a grocery bag of chips and such around one wrist, and 10 pounds of crawfish in a grocery bag around the other wrist. On a 97 yamaha 600r, in full helmet, gloves and jacket. This was in college in New Orleans and all I had was the bike, so when it was my turn to bring the beer/food, well I found a way.

Hopefully this will get this thread going again....

Many, many years ago I was riding with a group of guys up in the mountains.  We were on this road that is similar to Deal's Gap, that's about as long, but not as many curves packed into the same amount of space.  Anyway, it is twisty and very little traffic.

The guys I was riding with were a lot older, but they were still fast.  It was a warm late winter/early spring day, so we were making the most of it and moving a long at a pretty good clip.  I was second in line in the group and me and the guy in front pulled away from the rest.  Everything was going great until the front tucked exiting a sharp left hander.  I saved it, but I was now headed off the road, so I leaned her back into the corner and she tucked again and I was down!  The bike went down the mountain (no guardrails), but luckily it is very wooded, so it only went about 20 - 30 feet down the embankment.  Even luckier, I stayed up top on the 3-4 feet shoulder, narrowly missing a large rock.

Anyway, I stand up and could hear the other guys coming.  I run back toward the apex so they can see me and motion for them to slow down.  The guy that was only 5-10 feet in front of me, never saw me go down and kept on a gettin' it down the road.  Everyone else stopped and dismounted.  As we stood there and contemplated how to get my bike back up the road, we heard the other guy (who was in front) coming back to us.  One of my friends says, 'Quick, lay down in the center of the road and I'll act like I'm giving you CPR'.  Granted, he's 50 years old plus and I'm just some naive kid, so I do it.  I couldn't see it, but when the front guy rides up, I heard his eyes were as big as SAUCERS!

I didn't want him to freak out too much, so when I sat up, everybody just roared with laughter... eventually even the front guy.

Turns out a hit some slag in the center or the road on my corner exit (tiny pea gravel the DOT puts down for ice to give traction -  TO CARS) and the front tucked.  You could see where the tire pushed the gravel all the way to the edge of the road, where it ran into another line of slag on the outside of the road, which was the proverbial icing on the cake.

We got the bike back up the hill with the help of some rock climbers and their rope that were in the area who heard the carnage.  They had a good laugh too.
